Be Like Water
Be Like Water
This abstract piece represents a passage in Lao-Tzu's cryptic text, the TAO TE CHING, which in the version translated by Stephen Addiss and Stanley Lombardo reads like this;
"Best to be like water, Which benefits the ten thousand things, and does not contend. It pools where humans distain to dwell, Close to the TAO.
Live in a good place. Keep your mind deep. Treat others well. Stand by your word. Make fair rules. Do the right thing. Work when it's time.
Only do not contend, and you will not go wrong."
Mysterious right? I'm pretty sure, that's where the famous phrase 'Be Like Water' comes from.
As with all these pieces in the Beauty from Waste collection,
I draw the designs onto the boards, and then carefully cut along the lines with a scroll saw. Once they have been cut and sanded, I paint all the separate pieces, and then reassemble them like a jigsaw. They are then glued and mounted on backing boards measuring 32.5x32.5cm.
They are designed to be hung on the wall unframed, and are fitted with a French cleat hanging bracket, making it really quick and easy to put them up.
Each piece is comes carefully packed in a cardboard box, and can be delivered throughout the UK, using DPD's tracked service.
If you like the concept of this piece, but would like it in a different size, or colour, please don't hesitate to get in touch. I'd love to hear from you, and I'm always looking for interesting commissions to take on.
